Programme Description

The Master of Arts in Counselling Programme is a two year, 6 module program that will provide training for potential counselors in counselling theory, and practical counselling skills through coursework, supervised practicum, and original research, using a blended format.

Requirements

Candidates for the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology must hold a good first degree (Lower Second and above) from a recognized institution of higher learning. Due to the sensitive nature of the counseling profession, candidates will also be screened for maturity, integrity of character, psychological stability and academic ability. The process will include:

  1. A personal confidential interview with staff of the counseling programme
  2. Submission of a typed essays detailing the following:
    (i)A personal testimony of general experience, work life and religious life.
    (ii)An outline of life goals and how you plan to achieve them.
    (iii)The reasons for choosing this particular career path.(These essays should be included in the application package at submission)
  3. A list of 2 character referees with complete contact information.
  4. In addition, students will be required to follow the guidelines on registration as set out in the Uganda Christian University regulations

Programme Duration

The Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology Programme will run for the duration of 6 modules over 2 years. Each module will run for 12 weeks, 10 weeks of classwork and 2 weeks of face to face engagement.

Courses to be covered include courses in areas of ; Advanced Skills in Counselling, Data Management & Analysis, Research Dissertation, Practicum I, Practicum II.

Programme Structure

The Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology Programme will be delivered in a blended format utilizing both face-to-face and online methodologies.
